Data attribution

Datum is built on public data. Most Canadian municipal open data is released under the Open Government Licence (OGL), whose central condition is attribution. We are glad to give it.

Sources

Datum reads public municipal records: council, planning, and committee meeting agendas and minutes, development-application data, and issued-building-permit open data, from municipalities across Canada. Meeting records are published on platforms including eSCRIBE, Granicus, CivicWeb, and municipal open-data portals. Building-permit and development-application data come from each municipality's own open-data service.

Licence and attribution

Where a source is released under the Open Government Licence (municipal, provincial, or the Open Government Licence Canada), Datum uses it under that licence and attributes the originating municipality or agency as the source. Datum's structured records are a derived product: we extract, resolve, and link the underlying public information, and any errors in the derived data are ours, not the source's.

Datum respects each portal's terms and robots.txt. Where a source disallows automated access, we do not collect it. If you are a data publisher and have a question about how your public data appears in Datum, contact us at hello@datumai.ca.
